Privacy

The short version

Notch Buddy is a native macOS app that runs on your Mac. It has no account, no server of ours behind it, and no analytics or telemetry inside it.

What stays on your Mac

Clipboard history, notes, scratchpad text, shelf files, timers, screen time, saved links and image conversions are stored locally in the app's own container and never leave the machine.

Services you connect yourself

If you connect a payment provider or an analytics provider, Notch Buddy talks to that provider directly from your Mac to read your numbers. Keys are stored in your login keychain, and payment keys are restricted to read access.

Each of those services has its own privacy policy, which applies to that request.

Your Claude Code history

The Claude tool reads the session files Claude Code already writes to ~/.claude on your Mac, to show your streak and how many tokens you have used. It reads only the surrounding facts — timestamps, token counts, tool names, project folder names — and never the text of your conversations. Nothing from those files is sent anywhere; the totals are cached on your Mac and stay there. If you do not use Claude Code the tool has nothing to read and switches itself off.

Your licence

When you unlock Notch Buddy it sends your licence key and your Mac's name to Dodo Payments to activate it, and on each launch it asks Dodo whether that activation is still valid. That is what lets a refunded or revoked licence stop working, and it is the only thing the app reports about itself.

The key and its activation are kept in your login keychain. We do not store your name or email inside the app. If Dodo cannot be reached, Notch Buddy keeps working offline for fourteen days before asking again.

Update checks

Notch Buddy checks once a day for a new version, and downloads updates from GitHub. Those requests carry the usual things any web request does — your IP address and the version you are on. They contain no identifier for you and no licence key.

Purchases

Payment is handled by our checkout provider. We receive the details needed to issue and support your licence; we never see your card number.
